The Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association or BKMEA has recently inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Pathfinder International — based in Watertown, Massachusetts, USA, Pathfinder International is a global non-profit organisation that focuses on reproductive health, family planning, HIV/AIDS prevention and care and maternal health — to work together on raising awareness about family planning and healthcare for the knitwear workers.
Media reports maintained this adding the project will create family planning corners in manufacturing units that are members of the garment makers’ body (BKMEA), where master trainers will be created by specialist doctors and nurses, who will provide information on important topics including birth control methods, family planning, hygiene, health awareness amongst the workers even as the project will end on 30 June 2023.
As per a press release issued in this direction, Caroline Crosby (Senior Country Director of Pathfinder International), Mahbub Ul Alam (Family planning specialist) and BKMEA directors Fazle Shamim Ehsan and Akhtar Hossain Apurbo signed the MoU on behalf of their respective entities at the BKMEA office in Dhaka.
