In honour of Bangladesh’s 53rd anniversary of independence and National Day, the Bangladesh Embassy in Amman recently hosted a unique fashion show featuring Bangladeshi fashion legend Bibi Russell, with the involvement of female Bangladeshi textile industry workers employed in Jordan as models.
According to a media release, the main guest was Wajih Tayeib Azaizeh, the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan’s Minister of State for Prime Ministry Affairs.
Ambassadors, diplomats, high officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, including the Chief of Protocol, and other ministries, officers of the armed forces, journalists, academia, and civil society attended the reception.
The guests were captivated by the fashion show titled “Magical Threads of Bangladesh” by legendary Bangladeshi fashion designer Bibi Russell, where models were expatriate Bangladeshis and Jordanian female garment workers.
The ambassador of Bangladesh to Jordan, Nahida Sobhan, stated that the girls from the apparel business were part of an attempt to break down social barriers and embrace inclusivity by having them model for Bibi Russell in such an esteemed fashion event.
She claimed that it was a reflection of Bangladeshi people’s joy, festivities, spirituality, clothes, and social peace.
Nahida emphasised Bangladesh’s impressive recent economic expansion, which has been led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
The country is becoming a prominent player in the global market with a GDP of $460 billion and significant advancements in various sectors like textiles, electronics, pharmaceuticals, IT and shipbuilding, she mentioned.
Bangladeshi female workers, especially from underprivileged backgrounds, play a pivotal role in the country’s textile exports, making Bangladesh the second-largest exporter globally, she added.
The country’s remarkable success has been largely attributed to its emphasis on peace, stability, and development.
It added that the fashion show honouring Bangladesh’s history and culture showcased an incredible fusion of tradition and modernity.
Every piece of clothing, every strut, and every minute detail honoured Bangladesh’s colourful customs and rich past. The audience was enthralled by the mesmerising exhibition of innovation and artistry, which highlighted Bangladesh’s cultural tapestry’s beauty and elegance on a worldwide scale, it continued.
