While visiting Mauritius, State Minister for Information and Broadcasting Mohammad Ali Arafat encouraged the country of the Indian Ocean to make investments in Bangladesh’s special economic zone.
The call was made by the state minister during a bilateral meeting with Maneesh Gobin, the minister of foreign affairs, regional integration, and international trade for Mauritius, in Port Louis, according to a news statement on Wednesday afternoon.
The meeting included a range of bilateral topics, such as investments and trade as well as collaboration in anthropology and culture.
Mauritius, according to Arafat, is the entry point to Africa. Bangladesh would therefore have better commercial opportunities in Africa if money was invested in the Indian Ocean Island.
Arafat stated that Bangladesh places a great value on the links between the two nations, pointing out the parallels between Mauritius and Bangladesh in terms of race and culture.
In order to make it easier and faster for Bangladeshi workers to send money home, he pleaded with the Mauritius government to hire more professionals and workers from Bangladesh.
Arafat invited the Mauritius foreign minister to visit Bangladesh.
The prime minister of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina, received congratulations from Maneesh Gobin, the foreign minister of Mauritius, on her win in the elections held on January 7, to which Mauritius had dispatched an observer team.
The state minister is on a visit to Mauritius to attend the first ministerial conference on “Drug Trafficking and Substance Abuse in the Western Indian Ocean” scheduled for April 25.
