Garment workers of two different apparel manufacturing units, in Narayanganj and Gazipur respectively, recently hit the streets demanding unpaid wages.
As per reports, the first demonstration was carried out by hundreds of workers of a Opex and Sinha Group unit at Kanchpur in Narayanganj, who, reportedly, blocked the Dhaka-Sylhet and Dhaka-Chattogram highways recently demanding unpaid wages of four months even as on the other hand hundreds of employees and workers of Gazipur-based Style Craft Limited also blocked the Dhaka-Gazipur Highway and observed day-long work abstention demanding eight months’ unpaid wages.
Meanwhile, speaking to the media, Inspector of Gazipur Industrial Police, reportedly, stated that workers and the employees of Style Craft Limited were demanding unpaid wages of eight months even as he underlined that wage payment by the concerned factory was irregular for about three years now while adding as the factory administration had missed several deadlines to pay wages, workers blocked the Dhaka-Gazipur Highway for about two hours before withdrawing the blockade and continuing demonstration within the factory premise.
