The Bangladesh Garment Accessories and Packaging Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGAPMEA) will hold an election for the first time to select leaders who will make the organisation intelligent and dynamic and offer unwavering support to its members to help them overcome current obstacles and move forward.
With the backing of past presidents and members who share similar views, a panel named Election for Unity was revealed on Thursday to run in the 2024–2026 election.
Abdul Kader Khan, a former president of the BGAPMEA, declared the name and leader of the panel.
“In my tenure, we have made the sector most effective and worked for the members. To take the sector to the next level, an efficient leader like Shahriar is very crucial, said Kader.
“Our guidance and blessings will be with him, and he will make the industry more disciplined and modern,” he added.
Former presidents Rafez Alam Chowdhury, Iqbal Hossain, and Safiullah Chowdhury were also present.
Md Shahriar, Managing Director of Adzi Trims Ltd., a sister concern of Indet Group, will lead the panel in the next election on 11th May 2024.
Shahriar is the general secretary of the Bangladesh Apparel Youth Leaders Association (BAYLA), a former director of BGAPMEA, and the co-chairman of backward linkage at the Federation of Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI).
On 13th February, the BGAPMEA declared an election schedule and formed a board to conduct a poll for the 2024–26 period to be held on 11th May 2024.
The election board will be headed by Dr Md. Razzaqul Islam, BPAA, Deputy Secretary (Admin-5) of the Ministry of Commerce.
Other members of the board are Ashrafur Rahman, Deputy Secretary (Budget), and Tania Islam, Deputy Secretary (Export-Wing), Ministry of Commerce.
