Stakeholders, including the labour leaders, have suggested revision of workplace accident compensation amount and urged the Government to amend the labour law to this end.
Media reports maintained this adding the suggestion came up during a recent view exchange programme titled ‘nine years of Tazreen Fashions fire: what to do for ensuring compensations for the victims’, organised jointly by the Bangladesh Institute of Labour Studies, the Safety and Rights Society and the Bangladesh Legal Aid and Services Trust.
At the programme presided over by Labour Safety Forum convener Hamida Hossain, speakers, reportedly, maintained the amount of workplace accident compensations which was fixed a couple of years should be revised considering the fact that living costs had gone up even if there’s a depreciation of the currency as well.
The event was, reportedly, attended by Socialist Labour Front president Razequzzaman Ratan, Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Labour and Employment Nannu Molla, researchers Hasina Khanam, Sifat-e-Nur Khanam, Mohammad Sikander Ali, BILS Director Nazma Yesmin, garment labour leader Kalpana Akter, lawyer Mohammad Selim Ahsan Khan, amongst others.
