Taking part in a recent event, experts laid due emphasis on how to accelerate momentum of sustainability in Bangladesh readymade garment industry.
Media reports maintained this adding 50 speakers as well as 20 green growth exhibitors from over 20 nations, including industry leaders, policy makers, brands’ representatives and fashion campaigners from Bangladesh and abroad, took part in the said event.
Addressing the opening plenary of the event, 3rd edition of Sustainable Apparel Forum (SAF), ex-president of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) and Mayor of Dhaka North City Corporation, Md. Atiqul Islam, reportedly, maintained the Bangladesh garment sector has been vigilant in ensuring safety regulations, especially in the aftermath of the disastrous event of Rana Plaza incident even as he called for collaborated approach to ensure more ethical and sustainable industry.
Bangladesh Commerce minister Tipu Munshi, BGMEA president Faruque Hassan, executive president of BKMEA Mohammad Hatem, ambassador and head of delegation of the European Union to Bangladesh Charles Whiteley, ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Bangladesh Anne Van Leeuwen, ambassador of Bangladesh to the Kingdom of the Netherlands Riaz Hamidullah, Md. Atiqul Islam, head of unit for social economy and creative industries of European Commission Anna Athanasopoulou, amongst others, were reportedly present at the event.
