Workers of Opex Group’s closed garments’ unit in Narayanganj’s Kanchpur — according to reports, Opex & Sinha Textile Group, once one of Asia’s largest garment and textile makers, has decided to close operations at Kanchpur, Narayanganj following a reduction of work orders and financial losses even as the Group’s Chairman, Anisur Rahman Sinha, reportedly, decided to bring the decision into effect from 19 October — are likely to receive their salaries and other outstanding service benefits within November.
Media reports maintained this while adding that no specific information was found about the outstanding service benefits, due wages and other liabilities even as source within the apex garment maker’s body of BGMEA, reportedly, stated that the amount could be as high as Taka 90 crore.
Meanwhile, speaking to the media, Md. Abu Zafor, General Manager (Policy) of Opex Group, reportedly, maintained the company is currently calculating the dues and went on to add, “…due salaries might be cleared by this month. But we do not know when other outstanding benefits will be paid,” even as BGMEA Vice-President Nasir Uddin, on his part, underlined, “I hope there will be no problem with the clearance of Opex Group’s outstanding dues….”
