The challenges faced by the garment exporters in Bangladesh seem all set to settle in another four years by when the work on Matarbari deep seaport is expected to get completed.
A senior Japanese Foreign Ministry official, reportedly, claimed the construction of the same should get over by 2026, as per media reports.
Interacting with the media, Deputy Director General of the Southeast and Southwest Asian Affairs Department of Japanese foreign ministry, Iwamoto Keiichi, reportedly, underlined the construction of the port will get over as per the schedule even as he expressed Japan was confident of meeting the deadline, which is by 2026.
The survey of the port, which many consider will be the game changer for the regional economy once completed, was done in 2018, following which a loan agreement was signed in 2019.
The Japanese official further, reportedly, maintained in line with the decisions taken by the then Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abbey and Sheikh Hasina during the formers’ visit to Dhaka, Japan is committed to extending cooperation in several sectors.
