A Chinese-owned garment factory has been attacked by agitating workers after one of their colleagues was sacked by the company. Around 300 workers who broke into the factory premises reportedly smashed windows and doors, and held seven officials of the company captive for several hours.
The officials of the garment factory company owned by Hangzhou Baiyi Garments were released after intervention of local police and Chinese embassy officials in Yangoon.
The factory based in Zhejiang province in China became operational in Myanmar two years ago. Around 500 local workers are working with the company.

China is Myanmar’s biggest trading partner, and Chinese business presence is growing there at a steady pace as the country is trying to open up its economy to international investment after it held democratic elections two years ago.
