In yet another mishap in the garment and textile industry of Bangladesh, a fire broke out at a spinning mill at BSCIC area of Konabari, Gazipur, a garment manufacturing hub, on the wee hours of March 5, 2018.
The fire originated somewhere on the ground floor of Kader Synthetic Fibres Factory, a building that is two-storied in height, at around 2:00 am. Later, it spread to other areas of the factory.
Akhterzuzzaman Liton, Deputy Director of Gazipur Unit Fire Service and Civil Defence, repotedly maintained that nine fire-fighting units brought the fire under control at around 8:15 am. No one was injured as the factory was closed in the night, he mentioned.
According to primary reports, scores of threads, cotton and machinery were gutted in the fire. The reason behind the fire could not be ascertained immediately.
Md Akhteruzzaman, Assistant Director of Gazipur Fire Service and Civil Defence, informed that the fire spread out quickly throughout the factory as it was filled with synthetic thread and cotton. He added that the firefighters are still working to find out the reason behind the fire breakout.
Nobody from the factory authority was available for comments in this regard.
These constant accidents are once again raising the alarm in the Bangladesh garment industry which has previously been a victim of some serious industrial disasters like Tazreen fire.
