Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemical (ZDHC) programme has launched a new Chemical Gateway which has been designed to indicate conformance to ZDHC’s Manufacturing Restricted Substance List (MRSL) – a list of chemical substances banned from intentional use in provisions during the manufacturing process in textile materials and trim parts in garment and footwear segment. Conformance will be manifested by third party product accreditation standards and options available in the market.
Although the creation of ZDHC’s MRSL was seen as an industry milestone, but it created chaos within the textile and footwear value chain so much so that suppliers were unable to determine whom to trust and where to go when it came to safer chemical claims.

The tool is the world’s first database of safer chemistry to support brands, suppliers and chemical producers make better sourcing decisions.
