Thanks to resumption of economic activities as well as surge in exports of late, businesses in Bangladesh made a stride in terms of recovery from the COVID-19 fallouts in the third quarter of 2021.
This was underlined in a survey report.
The South Asian Network on Economic Modeling or SANEM, which carried out a survey of 500 firms between 10 and 27 October and measured the business confidence — confidence on a scale of 0 to 100 with a score above 50 points marking improvement — found the present business status index or PBSI increase to 52.31 in the July-September quarter from that of 42.57 a quarter ago.
Further, for the first time in July 2020 since the survey was launched, overall PBSI has, reportedly, crossed the 50-point mark, reflecting improvement of business activities.
Firms in textile and readymade garment sectors alongside those in ICT, transport, light engineering and tourism have expressed greater confidence in the upcoming quarter, said Prof. Raihan (SANEM Executive Director) which according to him reflects their optimism about the better prospect in the near future, even as he added faster recovery was observed in the garment, textile and light engineering sectors, amongst others.
