The apex garment makers body in Bangladesh, the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), feels apparel export might make a full recovery to the pre-pandemic levels by this October.
This is as per media reports which cited the BGMEA President Faruque Hassan in this direction.
I hope the full recovery of exports from the garment sector will be by October this year, reportedly, stated Faruque even as he added that vaccination in the US has covered majority of the people already and the consumers have started going to the retail outlets which indicates that the economy was rolling while also underlining that the trend of garment shipment was good with the rise in demand in the Western world and European retailers and brands have also started reopening stores while consumers are also spending more.
It may be mentioned here that currently US is the single largest destination for Bangladesh’s garment export, with nearly US $ 6.5 billion worth of garment items being shipped in a year while in case of European Union, Bangladesh, reportedly, exports more than US $ 21 billion worth of garment items in a year, which amounts to around 63 per cent of Bangladesh’s garment shipments in a year.
