Bangladesh is the second biggest apparel exporter globally after China.
Notwithstanding this, as per stakeholders, only around 5.0 per cent of Bangladesh’s total apparel exports contain high-end fashion products. And this is no good news for the industry!
Taking cognisance of the same, the Government has decided to figure out the causes behind the country’s slow progress in grabbing the global market of high-end apparel products despite it being the second-largest garment exporter.
As such, the Government recently formed an inter-ministerial body led by Commerce Secretary Dr Jafar Uddin to identify the challenges in producing high-end fashion products, devise strategy to explore new markets and recommend ways to face post-LDC challenges successfully.
The committee has been tasked with assessing the capacity to face possible barriers and steps needed to attain the target of earning US $ 50 billion by exporting apparels.
It was also asked to submit a report within 2 months.
