Sweden has made Bangladesh an offer, suggesting a cooperative endeavour to support a green shift in the apparel industry.
The suggestion was made at the State Minister for Power, Energy, and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid’s ministry office in the Secretariat during a meeting between the Swedish Ambassador to Bangladesh, Alexandra Berg Von Linde, and the latter.
He told the Swedish delegation that work is being done to generate 12,047 MW of electricity from renewable sources.
Of this, some 3,253 MW of solar power projects are now being implemented, and another 7,861 MW of solar power projects are being planned.
Although wind mapping has previously been done, he stated additional research is still needed in the field of wind power. The state minister projected that 40 per cent of all electricity would originate from renewable sources by 2041.
“Providing everyone with inexpensive, continuous electricity is one of our tasks. Huge investment is needed for renewable energy, he informed the envoy.
He underlined that to further modernise transmission and distribution networks, as well as the smart grid, these areas must be developed and expanded.
“The government is trying to increase the share of renewable energy in the national grid,” he stated.
The head of the Swedish Embassy’s Political, Trade, and Communication Department, Lovisa Hofmann, was present at the event.
