A seminar titled ‘Future Prospects and Challenges of the Garments Washing Sector’ took place at Dhaka University of Engineering and Technology (DUET), organised by students from the Textile Engineering Department.
The event featured Professor Dr. Md. Abdul Hannan, Head of the Textile Engineering Department at DUET, as the Chief Guest. Mehedi Hasan, founding president of the Bangladesh Garments Washing Technologists Foundation (BGWTF) and General Manager of Sterling Laundry Limited, served as the keynote speaker. Special guest Saman Wasalatilaka, an honorary member of the Sri Lankan Association of Bangladesh and General Manager of Sterling Laundry Limited, also attended. Additionally, notable figures like Ibne Rezwan, Senior Chemist of Sterling Laundry Limited and Publicity Secretary of BGWTF, along with Arifur Rahman, Managing Director of F2G Technologies Limited, the event’s sponsor, were present.
The seminar featured a comprehensive two-hour discussion on the challenges currently faced by the textile sector in Bangladesh, including issues such as fabric tearing, locker problems, gas shortages in factories, and potential future water scarcity. The speakers underscored the need for strategic approaches to sustain and advance the sector while urging students to leverage their knowledge and skills for the nation’s development.
