
The Chittagong region’s candidate panel has been revealed by the Sammilita Parishad ahead of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) elections, which are set for 31st May 2025. On Sunday night, 20th April, at a post-Eid party at the Chittagong Club, the announcement was made.
The panel’s leader is SM Abu Tayyab, managing director of Independent Apparels Limited, who, if chosen, is anticipated to serve as BGMEA’s first vice president. HKC Apparels Limited’s managing director, Rakibul Alam Chowdhury, has been identified as a prominent member and will take on the role of vice president. The team also includes Anjan Shekhar Das of RSB Industrial Limited, Mohammad Musa of Medina Fashions Limited, Nafid Nabi of BSA Group, Syed Mohammad Tanvir of Pacific Jeans Group, Mostafa Sarwar Riyad of RDM Apparels Limited, Md Afsar Hossain of Top Star Fashion Limited, and Gazi Md Shahidullah of Sonnet Group, who will take on director roles representing the Chattogram area.
The panel’s announcement was followed by discussions among attendees regarding the current challenges and future prospects of Bangladesh’s readymade garment sector in Chittagong. Industry leaders emphasized the importance of open communication among factory owners, collaborative problem-solving, and strategic planning for sustainable growth. The group committed to transparency, unity, and responsible leadership in their upcoming tenure.
Sammilita Parishad Panel Leader Md Abul Kalam and previous BGMEA presidents Kazi Moniruzzaman and Faruque Hassan, who are also the principal coordinator for the 2025–2027 election, were among the notable attendees. Former first vice presidents Ershad Ullah and SM Nurul Haque were among the other notable guests, along with a number of well-known business figures. Syed Nazrul Islam, a former BGMEA first vice president, moderated the proceedings.
The BGMEA election, set for 31st May 2025, is highly anticipated, with the newly announced panel aiming to lead the sector towards growth and resilience in the coming years.
