As the total number of active Coronavirus cases in Bangladesh touched 88 with 9 reported deaths, the Government has extended the countrywide shutdown further.
However, as per media reports, many apparel manufacturing units have resumed work despite the shutdown.
Notwithstanding repeated pleas from the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) and the Government to keep factories closed till 11 April, around 40 units have allegedly resumed operations from Sunday, reports underlined.
Of these 40 factories, around 30 are located in Savar.
In Gazipur, at least 8 apparel factories have also allegedly resumed production while at least 2 factories at Narayanganj reopened on Sunday, reports claimed.
Meanwhile, many garment manufacturing units that had earlier decided to resume operations from 5 April have decided to remain closed till 11 April, in view of the appeal made by the Government and the apex garment manufacturers’ body BGMEA.
