Amidst reports of many readymade garment factories allegedly resuming operations even as active Coronavirus cases in Bangladesh are on the rise, the Bangladesh Export Processing Zones Authority (BEPZA) has decided to keep shut all factories under its jurisdiction till 14 April.
All factories in the country’s 8 export processing zones (EPZs) under BEPZA will remain closed until 14 April from Monday to prevent the spread of Coronavirus.
Production at all factories in the EPZs will remain halted during the period, underlined a press release signed by BEPZA General Manager Nazma Binte Alamgir.
It may be mentioned here that around 40 manufacturing units in and around capital Dhaka have reportedly resumed operation notwithstanding the pleas from the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) and the Government to keep factories closed till 11 April, claimed media reports.
Of these 40 factories, around 30 are located in Savar, 8 in Gazipur and at least 2 in the Narayanganj area.
