
Cotton import from India to the Bangladeshi market has plunged from July to October of the current fiscal year. Traders and importers said that India reduced cotton export because of decrease in cotton production. Bangladeshi traders are now importing cotton from some other source countries as well to meet the demand. In the first quarter of the previous financial year, 4,998.155 tonnes of cotton was imported. The imports of the last four months were: 1,303.487 tonnes in July, 1,152 tonnes in August, 889.334 in September and 1,653 tonnes in October which means a 9 per cent reduction in import against the previous fiscal year.
