Sri Lanka’s largest apparel exporter the Brandix Group’s initiative to forge closer links with national higher education institutions for mutual benefit, took an important step forward recently with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the University of Colombo.
Under the agreement, Brandix will support undergraduates of the University’s Faculty of Management and Finance (FMF), focusing on the latter’s Department of Human Resources Management. The company informed that from time to time they would be conducting interviews at the university to recruit undergraduates from the FMF as interns/trainees in the Brandix Group. They would also invite students and lecturers of the Faculty to participate in training programmes conducted within the organization. With a view to developing skills and knowledge that will benefit the apparel industry and facilitate career advancement, the company may also explore the possibility of providing financial support for various activities conducted by the FMF to improve the skills and attitudes of the undergraduates of FMF at its discretion.
“This is the fourth such collaboration agreement between Brandix and a local university. The earlier three with whom the MoUs were signed by Brandix include the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, University of Kelaniya and Grant given to University of Moratuwa,”said Ishan Dantanarayana, Chief People Officer of the Brandix Group.
He added that one of the first programmes to benefit students of the university would be a Competency Development Programme, which will give opportunity to undergraduates to enhance both their soft and analytical skills. The program would soon be launched by Brandix.
