The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) is gearing up for its upcoming elections for the term 2024-26, with plans to conduct the process before the onset of Ramadan, the Muslim fasting month expected to commence in the second week of March 2024.
The current board’s tenure concludes on 12th April 2024.
A leader from BGMEA mentioned that the decision on establishing an election board is likely to be finalised during the upcoming board of directors meeting, scheduled for the first week of December.
In accordance with instructions from the commerce ministry, the incumbent board is required to organise the elections 15 days prior to the conclusion of the current executive committee’s term.
The biennial elections for the BGMEA board for the term 2021-23 took place on 4th April 2021, with office bearers elected on 12th April of the same year.
Originally, the board’s tenure was set to end on 12th April 2023; however, the Government granted two extensions to the current board.
