The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) called on international buyers, apparel companies, and retailers to show greater understanding for the country’s RMG industry in light of the current situation.
At a meeting with international buyers and clothing brands at the BGMEA office in the Uttara neighbourhood of the city, the BGMEA made the announcement.
Following the meeting, BGMEA President SM Mannan Kochi reported that retailers and brands had given them assurances that, in light of the recent wave of violence and production halt, they would not demand air shipment, pursue any discounts, or cancel work orders.
He noted that in light of the recent unfortunate events at the centre of the quota reform movement, they have informed international purchasers and clothing companies of the government’s measures to handle the issue.
Kochi also reaffirmed the BGMEA’s as well as the government’s highest possible support to reduce the impact of such untoward incidents. He said that internet connections were restored as soon as feasible for the benefit of the nation’s export-oriented sectors.
Additionally, the president of the BGMEA reported that the Government has been persuaded to expedite the loading and unloading processes at seaports and land ports while guaranteeing that importers and exporters will not be required to pay demurrage at any port due to unanticipated delays in consignment loading and unloading.
While local exporters are experiencing delays in ports due to the most recent nationwide unrest and curfew that is at the centre of the quota reform campaign, worldwide clothes retailers and brands have voiced concerns regarding the timely shipment of garment items.
They also urged the local garment suppliers to ensure the goods are shipped on time and stressed the need for restoring internet services for faster communication with the retailers.
