
The leaders of Bangladesh’s banking sector have called upon Bangladesh Bank’s Governor Abdur Rauf Talukder to resolve the ongoing dollar crisis in the market to facilitate LC opening.
According to media reports, Chairmen of 11 banks under the aegis of BAB or Bangladesh Association of Banks met the Governor recently even as they discussed how they can work together to deal with the crisis.
It may be mentioned here in the recent past there have been reports of businesses, across sector, being impacted adversely owing to difficulties in opening LCs.
After the meeting — Chairman of Exim Bank and BAB Nazrul Islam Majumder reportedly led the bankers’ team in the meeting — spokesperson of the central bank Mazbaul Haque, reportedly underlined leaders of the BAB had informed the central bank Governor that they could not open LCs due to dollar shortage.
