In response to ongoing protests by workers, Tusuka Group has decided to close six of its garment manufacturing facilities in the Konabari region of Gazipur City for three days. The closure took effect from Monday, 21st April, and continues until Wednesday, 23rd April. The decision was communicated through a notice posted at the main entrances of the affected factories.
The factories impacted by the shutdown include Tusuka Jeans Limited, Tusuka Trousers Limited, Tusuka Denim Limited, Tusuka Processing Limited, Tusuka Washing Limited, and Tusuka Packaging Limited. The notice cited the lack of a conducive working environment as the reason for the temporary closure, emphasising that all activities would remain suspended during this period.
Sources indicate that workers had staged protests and abstained from work for several hours on Saturday, 19th April, voicing various demands. The demonstration concluded with the factory declaring a holiday for that day. Subsequently, factory management reportedly accepted the workers’ grievances and issued a notice confirming this. However, upon returning to work on Sunday, the workers resumed their protests instead of resuming their duties. Following their departure later that afternoon, the management announced the three-day shutdown.
The workers’ demands include the full implementation of a salary grading system based on BGMEA guidelines, protection from leave deductions during Eid holidays, arrangements for an annual company picnic, an end to favoritism, holiday pay aligned with the employees’ date of joining, settlement of outstanding dues within the current month, and a halt to layoffs. The dispute highlights ongoing tensions between management and workers over employment conditions and workplace fairness.
