In Gazipur, workers from three readymade garment factories staged a demonstration on 7th April, demanding the payment of outstanding dues, Eid bonuses, and other arrears. The protest was primarily led by employees of the TNZ factory located in the Mogarkhal area, who were soon joined by workers from other nearby factories in a show of solidarity.
Prominent workers’ leaders, including Md Arman Hossain, Shahin Alam, Md Shariful, and Shahidul Islam, addressed the gathering, supported by representatives from various labor organizations. The protestors expressed their frustration over three months of unpaid salaries, highlighting that, prior to Eid, each worker received only Taka 9,100, leaving significant amounts still owed.
The workers vowed to continue their demonstrations until all dues are fully settled. They recalled their crucial role in the recent anti-government movement that resulted in the ousting of the Awami League, emphasizing their ongoing neglect and the broken promises regarding salary payments.
In response to the escalating situation, a meeting is scheduled between labor representatives and officials from the Ministry of Labour in Dhaka on Tuesday to address the workers’ grievances.
