Egypt’s textile exports increased by 3 per cent increase in the first ten months of 2017.
The resultant increase helped the exports reach US $ 673 million, which is significantly higher than what it was in 2016 (US $ 651 million) as reported by Textile Export Council of Egypt.
Turkey, by acquiring exports of US $ 230.27 million, leads among all the countries that import textiles from Egypt.
Italy comes next (US $ 132.98 million) followed distantly by Saudi Arabia and Tunisia with figures US $ 26.79 million and US $ 21.85 million, respectively.
The country’s textile export to Germany touched US $ 16.89 million, a little higher than its export to Portugal (US $ 13.19 million).
Hassan Eshra, Chairman, Textile Export Council of Egypt, said that the recently concluded ‘Destination Africa’ fair in Cairo also boosted Egypt’s export as many local companies got the opportunity of meeting foreign buyers.
Motivated by the success of the fair, the Council now plans to meet the organisers of the event to prepare for the forthcoming editions.
The intent of the Council is to ensure that the strength of Egyptian exhibitors is projected to the world.
Hassan also informed that some international companies recently visited the textile city of Minya and showed their interest to invest in the city.
