The Chittagong Port Authority has extended the period for export containers to reach the ship in response to a request from the apex body of ready-made garment exporters, BGMEA. Since 1st September, the ‘cut off time’ has been loosened.
Around 24 hours before the scheduled ship departs from the port, the exporter or carrier may deliver the items to the port yard. It used to be mandatory to finish the loading or shipping process 48 hours in advance.
According to a circular from the Chittagong Port Authority, the “cut off time” for ships has only been loosened for export containers carrying ready-made clothing since the BGMEA went into effect.
The port administration claims that the extension of the gate in time or cut-off time will give export containers containing ready-made clothing additional time to be shipped. Three hours prior to the ship leaving the jetty, the container gate will be finished.
All goods that are exported via Chittagong Port are transported to Chittagong’s private inland container depot from various regions of the nation. These items are loaded into the container and, under the ship’s timetable, transported to the hook point at the port yard. To ensure that no export cargo is left behind aboard the ship departing the port, a set time limit is established. Raising the “cut off time” has lessened the possibility that export containers may be abandoned during transit.
