Expressing concern over the recent gas and electricity price hikes that would only push up the production cost of small businesses, Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) has underlined it would be a big challenge for the businesses to survive without retrenching workers.
The President of the DCCI Sameer Sattar reportedly underlined this while adding the hikes have resulted from the global economic crisis and energy shortages even as he added the biggest challenge this year would be to keep inflation under control while underlining industry owners will have to decide whether to adjust with layoffs or reduce profit margins.
The DCCI President further reportedly called upon the Government to adjust gas and electricity price when the prices of energy come down in the global market.
“Then it should be adjusted in our country as well, without any delay,” opined Sameer Sattar.
