Over the years the private shows are exhibiting new technologies or bringing focus on a particular brand or machine which has proved very fruitful for machine suppliers and manufacturers. Taking a cue from the same, Mehala Machines India recently conducted its first major private show at its head office in New Delhi, focusing on the sewing machines and automates from Duerkopp Adler, the German pioneer in manufacturing sewing solutions. “One of the major reasons behind doing a private show was to invite senior management and owners to spend quality time inspecting the technology and interacting with the team, which is generally missing at larger technology fairs,” asserts Ashim Das, CEO, Mehala Machines India who can be credited as the inceptor of such shows for the company. Companies like Orient Craft, Blackberrys, Dhir Global, Givo, ITC and Darzi highlighted the visitation of the event.
“We enjoy being at bigger shows where the focus is clearly on making our presence, but serious sales are conducted at private shows only. We also plan to do a combined show for our brands, Macpi & Duerkopp Adler.” – Ashim Das, CEO, Mehala Machines India
In fact, one of the major reasons for the growing number of private shows is the professional ambience which is very businesslike with focused technologies and limited visitors, wherein each visitor gets the opportunity to better understand the capabilities and various applications of the machines in a relaxed and detailed environment. “We enjoy being at bigger shows where the focus is clearly on making a presence and being visible to new prospective clients, besides saying hello to old ones, but serious business is conducted at private shows. The two marketing methodologies cannot really be considered as alternates, but are concurring ways to be noticed in the market,” adds Ashim Das.

The spotlight of the show was on machines from Duerkopp Adler for sewing formal jackets, shirts and trousers. Live demonstrations of the sewing automates, part of a complete sewing line, were given at the show. A technical seminar was also conducted as a part of the private show wherein people who were already using machines from Duerkopp Adler were updated on preventive maintenance of the sewing machines, for reducing the downtime. The visitors were also informed about the various operations that can be done by a single machine. “Many companies even requested us to reserve a specific time slot only for them as they wanted to be attended personally. This suited us perfectly as our aim was not to gather a crowd of perspective buyers, but rather on getting a set of people who were serious on investing,” says S. Eswaran, Product Head – Duerkopp Adler, Mehala Machines India, overwhelmed with the response at the event.

Among the complete array of machines displayed were the 100-69 pocket welting machine, the 745-35 automate for sewing straight piped pockets, flap pockets and welt pockets, the 580-321 automatic 2-thread chainstitch eyelet buttonholer with innovative Multiflex cutting system, the 650-16 sleeve setting machine and the 1225-5 trouser panel serging machine, received the most attention at the two-day event.
The 100-69 pocket welting machine is a highly flexible and innovative automate for sewing welt, straight flap and inside pockets with an average of 1,200 piped pockets per 8 hours shift. The machine is equipped with needle thread and bobbin thread monitors for seamless operations. For precise pocket placement and pocket mouth slit, the machine is equipped with 8 laser marking lights for accurate positioning. The machine can process endless zipper rolls and be equipped with bundle clamp and roll-off device for handling trouser panels in a much more efficient manner.
After two smaller, but effective private shows, the success of the Delhi show has encouraged Mehala to do similar shows in Kolkata and Bangalore also. Plans are to do such shows not only for Duerkopp Adler but also for other brands like Siruba, Topcut-Bullmer and MACPI, which are big names in the portfolio of brands represented by the company. “As MACPI and Duerkopp Adler have a common set of customers, i.e. formal trouser, jacket and shirt manufacturers, plans are also to do a combined show wherein the focus would be on both the brands,” adds Ashim Das. With a wide product and brand offering, the company aims to personify its capabilities as a complete end-to-end solution provider through such events.
