Amidst the backdrop of global downturn, the hopes for a positive future were observed in the numerous technology exhibitions last year. Sensing the potential of the Indian garment industry in the days to come, Korea Sewing Machinery Industrial Association (KOSMIA) will mark its presence at the GTE ’10 with delegates from 12 well established Korean companies. As an association, KOSMIA helps as a key foundation for analysis and research to the industry both on global and local scales. It runs educational programmes and seminars and provides sewing- and machinery-related R&D to the companies.
Korean companies are well known for their quality products matching in every way with the European suppliers. The few companies participating in the fair have already established their names in hot fixing, seam sealing and socks knitting areas. The contingent is confident of gaining business from the Indian industry. Team StitchWorld analyses the technology that the Korean delegation is set to show at the fair.

With the Indian industry looking to diversify into the technical textile sector, Nawon machinery and S-tech are bringing the wide ranges of the Seam sealing equipment which can be used in the manufacturing of water proof jackets, tents, ski-wear, diving suit and parachutes. Nawon will display its Hot air seam sealing machine HTM-3888LDI and Water pressure tester HTM-2225. The Hot air seam sealing machines of the company are fitted with DC Servo Motor and have safety device for high temperature extraction. The machines are fitted with automatic tape feeding and cutting device and have fan for moisture and overheating prevention. S-TECH specialization includes Seam sealing machine, Model ST-6582 which maintains a stable temperature by a digital temperature control mechanism. Apart from this, the machine is 30% lighter than the previous models. Another model ST-318 is a cross over press with automatic pressure mechanism. It can impart a maximum pressure of 150 kg at a maximum temperature of 300o C.

Socks knitting is another area in which the Korean contingents will bring their latest technology. Hyung Jea’s S-206 is a fully electronic, drumless single cylinder socks knitting machine with 2-feeders. It enables the user to knit various patterned socks with reciprocated heel and toe. The machine can produce plain, jacquard socks and/or terry and motif. The patterns are programmed by pattern analyzer and transferred to the machine with 3.5” floppy disk. Taeho Machinery, will showcase two types of computerized single cylinder Socks knitting machine DL 700 plain type with cylinder diameter of 3½ inches, range of needle counts: 72N-200N with 6 feeder; and terry type with cylinder diameter of 3¾ inches, range of needle count: 72N-220N with 6 feeder. The technology available with Machine Tech’s Socks knitting machines saves memory in case of power failure and has easy to use touch screen control panel. The company also produces gloves knitting machines and rotary steam setting machines.

Value addition on garments is India’s strength and realizing this, three Korean companies are displaying their hot-fixing and rhinestone attaching machines at the fair. Shinil International exports to over 50 countries, including Italy, the European Union, the US, Japan, China, Russia among others. Shilnil’s SL-110 has automatic vibrating rivet supplying system. It takes in stones from the vibrator, and then rivets them on the fabrics. Its automatic blocking system prevents any flawed rivets from being clogged. Two different heights of rivets are workable at the same time at the speed of 180 pieces/minute. Vision Tech will display automatic hot-fix setting machine, automatic hot-fix sequin motif making machine, semi-auto hot-fix setting machine, heat transfer press and various hot-fix elements. The firm enjoys good reputation across the globe, owing to better services, economic prices and delivery efficiencies. Another participant Seung Min Industrial holds many technology patents and is continuously developing new machines in accordance with the demands of the market. The company will showcase machines like table top automatic hot-fix machine by ultrasonic system with two heads (Linovy), automatic rhinestone motif setter with two heads (MotiFix), automatic hot-fix setting machine by ultrasonic and electric heating system (SM 888-P), manual hot-fixer by ultrasonic system with vacuum (SM 888-SV) and table top automatic prong pearl snap setter (SM600-N).
