At its headquarters, the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) honoured the late Filippo Poggi, the former Primark Country Controller, with a sombre memorial service. The ceremony was attended by Primark officials, Bangladeshi garment industry representatives, BGMEA members, family, friends, and well-wishers, reflecting the significant impact Poggi had on Bangladesh’s ready-made garment (RMG) sector.
During the event, participants paid tribute by placing wreaths on Poggi’s mortal remains and expressed their gratitude for his dedicated efforts in strengthening collaboration between Primark and Bangladesh’s apparel industry.
BGMEA Administrator Anwar Hossain shared his memories of Poggi, recalling their last meeting just a month prior to his passing.”Filippo was a wonderful person, full of life, warmth, and kindness. The fact that he is no longer with us is still difficult to accept. With his help, Primark and our sector were able to establish a solid and long-lasting partnership,” he remarked.
BGMEA President Mahmud Hasan Khan Babu also expressed deep sorrow over the loss, emphasising Poggi’s role as a true friend of Bangladesh’s RMG sector. “He worked relentlessly to promote cooperation because he recognised our difficulties and had faith in our abilities. The industry as a whole will be greatly affected by his absence,” he said.
Filippo Poggi’s wife, Fay, addressed the gathering emotionally, acknowledging the outpouring of love from the Bangladeshi garment community. “Everyone’s unwavering love is astounding to witness. This genuinely demonstrates Filippo’s close bond with his coworkers in Bangladesh’s RMG industry,” she said.
As a mark of remembrance, a sapling was planted on the BGMEA premises in Poggi’s honour. Additionally, Administrator Anwar Hossain presented a condolence letter on behalf of BGMEA and its members to Fay.
The BGMEA extended its heartfelt condolences to Filippo Poggi’s family, colleagues, and friends, mourning the loss of a respected partner and dedicated supporter of Bangladesh’s garment industry.
