Commerce Advisor Sk Bashir Uddin has urged German importers to buy more goods from Bangladesh since the country is a major manufacturer of leather goods, home textiles, clothes, medications, plastics, shoes, and bicycles.
The adviser made the call at the Trade Ministry’s Dhaka office while meeting with Rüdiger Lotz, the recently appointed German ambassador to Bangladesh.
According to statistics from the Trade Ministry, Germany accounts for 10.96% of Bangladesh’s annual merchandise exports, making it the country’s second-largest export destination behind the United States.
Bangladesh is a major sourcing destination for German apparel labels and retailers, therefore bilateral commerce between Germany and the South Asian nation is heavily skewed in favour of Bangladesh.
According to data from the Commerce Ministry, Bangladesh purchased US $ 940.60 million worth of commodities and exported US $ 4.85 billion worth of goods to Germany during the fiscal year 2023–24.
According to Rüdiger, Germany and Bangladesh will keep collaborating to improve their mutual economic ties.
As per the statement, Germany will also work with Bangladesh to further the two nations’ ongoing trade diversification process.
