Bangladesh took part in Fashion World Tokyo (FaW) held from 17th-19th April in Japan’s Tokyo Big Sight.
This year’s event features about 800 exhibitors from around the globe displaying a wide range of fashion wear, garments, bags, shoes, textiles, leather products, fashion accessories, and fashion sourcing. It is the largest trade expo for the fashion sector in Japan.
Twelve exporters from the apparel and leather goods sector attended this exhibition as part of the Export Promotion Bureau’s (EPB) market growth effort, which is run by the Ministry of Commerce.
Furthermore, six businesses took part according to their own plan, a news statement stated.
On 17th April, Bangladesh’s ambassador to Japan, Shahabuddin Ahmed, paid a visit to both Bangladeshi booths and NRB exhibitors, marking the official opening of the Bangladesh pavilion.
The same day, in the evening, Tokyo Big Sight hosted a seminar on “Made in Bangladesh Textile, Leather, and Jute Goods” by the Bangladeshi Embassy.
Ambassador Shahabuddin Ahmed delivered a welcome speech at the event. The Ambassador in his speech urged the Japanese companies to source more ‘Made in Bangladesh’ quality products from Bangladesh.
In the evening on the same day, the Embassy of Bangladesh organised a Seminar on ‘Made in Bangladesh Textile, Leather, and Jute Goods’ at Tokyo Big Sight.
Kei Funaki, Director and General Manager, Overseas Business Office, Japan Textile Products Quality and Technology Center (QTEC), delivered presentations on their business experiences in Bangladesh. Minister (Commerce) of Bangladesh Embassy Dr. Ariful Haque highlighted the opportunities for Japanese companies to do business in Bangladesh as well as support services to Japanese companies provided by the embassy. The seminar was supported by the Japan External Trade organisation (JETRO) and UNIDO ITPO Tokyo.
Along with business delegates, NRB businessmen, and embassy officials, the Embassy of Bangladesh also hosted an Opinion Exchange and Networking Event on April 19 at the Bangabandhu Auditorium.
For more than ten years, EPB has been a part of the exhibition with a sizable number of exporters and important industry players.
Given that Bangladesh’s overall exports to Japan in 2022–2023 were US $ 1.9 billion, a substantial increase from the previous year, Japan is a potential market for Bangladeshi goods. Bangladesh’s participation in Fashion World Tokyo will be crucial to maintaining the current market share and growing our exports to Japan.
