
K.M. Rezaul Hasanat, the Chairman of Viyellatex Group, has been elected as the President of the Bangladesh Independent Power Producers’ Association (BIPPA) for the 2025-26 term. This prominent trade association plays a crucial role in the energy sector of Bangladesh.
With extensive experience in both the textile and energy industries, Hasanat is poised to bring strategic insights that will further enhance the landscape of independent power production in the country. His leadership is expected to foster greater collaboration between public and private stakeholders, advocate for necessary policy reforms, and address the pressing challenges within the energy sector. These efforts are critical to meeting Bangladesh’s rising demand for reliable and sustainable power.
Hasanat’s election reflects his significant contributions to the business community and his dedication to driving growth across various industries. He has been a key figure in the business world, serving as the Chairman and CEO of Viyellatex Group since 2002 and as an Independent Director at Bata Shoe Co. (Bangladesh) Ltd. since 2011. Additionally, he is the founder of Interfab Shirt Manufacturing Ltd., established in 1998.
His commitment to corporate social responsibility and sustainability is well-documented; he previously served as the President of the Bangladesh Network for the United Nations Global Compact and as a Trustee at the CSR Centre. Recognised as a pioneer in implementing green initiatives, Hasanat was elected President of the steering committee of the UN Global Compact Bangladesh Network in 2012. He is also a member of the Advisory Board of the UNIDO Green Industry Platform and has pledged to make his company carbon neutral.
Over the years, Hasanat has received numerous accolades, including the Business Person of the Year award in 2007, the CSR Award in 2008, and the Climate Award in 2010. His commitment to green business practices earned him the Centenary Award from the Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce & Industry (MCCI) in 2014.
