To ensure smooth and efficient functioning of the land ports, State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury maintained operations of the land ports along with customs officials concerned and land ports’ law-enforcers need to be brought under one umbrella.
The State Minister for Shipping, reportedly, came up with the observations while participating in a webinar titled ‘The role of land ports in the country’s economic progress: Challenges and potentials’, organised by the Bangladesh Land Port Authority (BLPA) on the occasion of its 20th anniversary even as the Minister underlined that there are multiple organs in land port operations and the gaps amongst these organs need to be minimised so as to make sure efficient operations of the land ports.
Taking part in the discussions, Shipping Secretary Mezbah Uddin Chowdhury, reportedly, stated that there needs to be more focus on the land ports in the eastern region while underlining that
in the eastern frontier, the only land port with Myanmar should be developed more to explore businesses even as he stated eastern regions of India also hold significant business potentials for Bangladesh and development of land ports in the eastern region can thus play important role in this regard.
