
Quazi Moniruzzaman has been named President of Sammilito Parishad, a significant association made up of clothing producers and exporters, marking a significant change in leadership. Introducing Abul Kalam as the new General Secretary. Former BGMEA President and former Minister Redwan Ahmed made the news on 7th October during an exchange meeting at the Uttara Club in the capital.
Tipu Munshi and Atiqul Islam, the outgoing president and secretary general, are succeeded by Moniruzzaman and Kalam, respectively. The Bangladesh Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) is experiencing tremendous turmoil at the moment, primarily due to the influence of Sammilito Parishad members.
The change in leadership comes after former BGMEA president SM Mannan Kochi, who was chosen from Sammilito Parishad, resigned on August 24. The board members elected Khandaker Rafiqul Islam to be the BGMEA president when Kochi left.
Redwan Ahmed stressed the importance of the new leadership, claiming that the current administration has been ineffectual owing to several reasons, including Tipu Munshi’s arrest and other leaders going into hiding. He conveyed his confidence that the garment industry’s leadership shortfall will be adequately addressed by the new leadership.
Former BGMEA presidents Mostafa Golam Quddus, Faruque Hassan, and BKMEA president Muhammad Hatem also attended the conference. As they assume their positions, the new leaders will be in charge of finishing the appointments within the council.
