In a recent event in Dhaka, Nina P. Cainglet, the newly appointed Ambassador of the Philippines to Bangladesh, emphasised the importance of strengthening trade ties between the two nations. Speaking at a reception hosted by the Bangladesh Philippines Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BPCCI), the ambassador expressed her optimism about the potential for increased economic collaboration and opportunities through this growing partnership.
The event was attended by various dignitaries, including BPCCI president, directors, and representatives from the ready-made garment (RMG) sector. Notable attendees included former BGMEA president Faruque Hassan, former DCCI president Asif Ibrahim, and BPCCI directors Salauddin Chowdhury and Misha Chowdhury.
According to the United Nations COMTRADE database, Bangladesh exported goods worth approximately US $ 94.81 million to the Philippines in 2023, highlighting a foundation for further trade relations. The ambassador’s remarks coincided with discussions on enhancing bilateral trade and investment, focusing on future economic growth and innovation between the two countries.
The reception celebrated the burgeoning friendship between Bangladesh and the Philippines, with participants exploring new horizons for investment and cooperation. The ambassador’s call for collaboration reflects a shared vision for a prosperous economic partnership moving forward.
Notably, in 2023, the Philippines imported goods worth approximately US $ 94.81 million from Bangladesh. A significant portion of this trade comprised ready-made garments (RMG). Specifically, the Philippines imported US $ 30.84 million in knit or crocheted apparel and US $ 22.16 million in non-knit apparel from Bangladesh during that year. Conversely, in October 2024, the Philippines exported goods valued at US $ 2.28 million to Bangladesh.
