
With falling price points of apparel items continuing to worry the garment manufacturers, Bangladesh has joined hands with eight major apparel manufacturing countries,in an effort to garner better price from the global buyers.
This is an initiative to work together as a consultative body mainly to improve the buying practices of the international clothing retailers and brands, reportedly, stated the global spokesperson of the STAR Network — STAR Network is the first inter-Asian Network of Producer Associations of the textile and garment industry — Miran Ali even as a draft document accessed by the Reuters, reportedly, underlined that apparel makers in nine countries spanning Middle East, Asia and North Africa have banded together to demand better contract terms from global clothing retailers even if suppliers have, reportedly, expressed hope their united front will prevent retailers from playing them off against each other in search of more lenient terms, which is consequent to suppliers suffering from widespread cancellations and payment delays on account of the coronavirus pandemic, in its initial days.
It is a strong global platform for improvements, reportedly,said Miran while adding that the nine countries account for 70 per cent of the global garment trade, and went on to underline that many garment suppliers, particularly those in Bangladesh, have experienced the worst when it came to receiving payments amidst the coronavirus fallouts.
