Bangladesh exported goods valued at US $ 5.10 billion in March, witnessing a 9.88 per cent rise compared to the same month in 2023, as per the latest data from the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB).
However, the profits missed the export goal for the previous month by 0.88 per cent.
With US $ 5.19 billion in revenue in February, the nation saw a 12.04 per cent boost in revenue year over year.
The last four months have seen higher exports due to a moderate recovery in garment shipments, which make up approximately 85 per cent of all exports, even though demand in Western economies has slowed due to the aftermath of the war in Russia and Ukraine, the coronavirus pandemic, and the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
From July to March of this fiscal year, total exports increased by 4.39 per cent to US $ 43.55 billion.
Garment shipment rose 5.53 per cent to US $ 37.20 billion during the nine months of 2023-24 compared to a year ago. Of the sum, US $ 21.01 billion came from knitwear sales, which grew 9.79 per cent, and US $ 16.19 billion from the woven sector, which was up 0.47 per cent.
The EPB data shows that overall exports for the July–March period of FY 2023–24 were US $ 43.56 billion, which represents a 4.39 per cent increase over the same period in the previous fiscal year.
Since December of last year, the nation has been exporting merchandise valued at more than US $ 5 billion.
