The Forum, a prominent alliance focused on the upcoming Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) elections, has officially named Mahmud Hasan Khan Babu as its panel leader. Babu, who serves as the managing director of Rising Fashions, was introduced to industry stakeholders at an event held in Dhaka on Wednesday.
Bringing extensive experience to the role, Babu has previously held significant positions within the BGMEA, including vice president and director. He has also served as director for both the Bangladesh Textile Mills Association (BTMA) and the Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA).
The announcement event saw the presence of notable former BGMEA presidents, including Anisur Rahman Sinha, Anwar-ul-Alam Chowdhury Parvez, and Rubana Huq, alongside Forum President Abdul Salam and Rashid Ahmed Hossaini. Forum leaders expressed confidence that Babu’s leadership will be crucial in tackling the pressing challenges currently facing the garment sector.
Industry stakeholders voiced the necessity for strong and decisive leadership during these turbulent times. Mahmud Hasan called for timely elections coupled with a transparent and inclusive voter list, ensuring participation is limited to legitimate association members. He emphasised the importance of having an administrator oversee a fair election process.
The call for new leadership comes in the wake of the Ministry of Commerce dissolving the BGMEA Board of Directors on 20th October, with an administrator appointed to facilitate the transition to a newly elected board within 120 days.
