
Bangladesh’s garment manufacturing hub of Narayanganj will soon have an inland container and bulk terminal subsequent to Bangladesh Government taking special initiative to facilitate transportation of containers from Mongla, Chittagong and Payra ports by inland waterways.
Media reports maintained this adding this is expected to promote regional and sub-regional trade and commerce along the river even as the project will be implemented by Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) in June 2023 at a cost of Taka 392 crore.
It may be mentioned here Narayanganj is an ancient river port on the banks of the Shitalakshya River and is well known currently for various industries including readymade garments.
