Adviser to the ministries of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, and Water Resources, Syeda Rizwana Hasan, has announced that Germany will provide Bangladesh €1 billion over the next ten years, of which €15 million will go towards renewable energy generation this year.
Both countries would promote collaboration and information exchange with non-state organisations like universities, research facilities, businesses, and civil society.
The Environment Adviser made this comment after meeting with Achim Tröster, the German Ambassador to Bangladesh. The meeting was held at the Bangladesh Secretariat office of the Ministry on Tuesday.
By including women, youth, and ethnic minority communities, the alliance will enable a multi-stakeholder approach, according to Syeda Rizwana Hasan.
She thanked the ambassador for Germany’s continued support in addressing environmental and climate-related challenges. In order to solve the issues brought on by climate change, she underlined the importance of both increased international cooperation and sustainable forest management.
Ambassador Tröster emphasised Germany’s commitment to supporting Bangladesh in its battle against climate change and applauded the government’s environmental protection actions.
In addition to stressing Germany’s expertise in renewable energy, he offered technical assistance to Bangladesh’s green energy initiatives.
During the summit, both sides discussed intensifying their bilateral cooperation on river cleaning, environmental preservation, and climate change mitigation. To address environmental and climate-related challenges, potential collaboration on sustainable development initiatives and the use of green technologies was considered.
The meeting concluded with a mutual agreement to explore further avenues for collaboration, particularly in technology transfer and environmental sustainability projects.
