
Md. Jashim Uddin, the President of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce & Industries (FBCCI), has maintained sustaining SMEs require special policy support even as lack of close ties with banks was depriving the small-scale traders of Government’s stimulus package benefits.
Media reports maintained this adding the FBCCI President said the focus was due because the SME sector is considered to be backbone of Bangladesh’s economy and forms the backward linkage of the export-oriented industry, a major source of foreign currency earnings.
It may be mentioned here that thanks to the Coronavirus pandemic, SMEs in Bangladesh have had to, reportedly, suffer adverse and prolonged fallouts, which took a toll on the SMEs.
Jashim Uddin further, reportedly, added entrepreneurs also face problems in obtaining bank loans due to lack of collateral alongside as well as in traversing the complexities of loan applications.
