
Close on heels of reports suggesting that Bangladesh is pursuing Maldives to sign preferential trade agreement (PTA), now it has emerged that both the countries have, reportedly, agreed to sign the deal so as to increase bilateral trade and commerce.
According to media reports, a consensus on the same has, reportedly, been reached between Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and President of the Maldives Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, during their bilateral talks, held recently.
It may be mentioned here that the Maldivian President was in Dhaka recently to participate in the birth centenary of the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Earlier on 17 March (Wednesday), Bangladesh Foreign Minister Dr. AK Abdul Momen, reportedly, called upon the Maldivian President and requested the island nation to import apparel products from Bangladesh apart from agricultural products, medicines, jute goods, etc., while also discussing about different bilateral issues including the movement of ships between Chittagong and Male.
