Decathlon has announced the appointment of Sayef Ahmed as the new Country Production Leader for its operations in Bangladesh, signaling a strategic move to bolster local leadership and expand its manufacturing presence in the country.
Sayef Ahmed, who joined Decathlon in 2014, brings over ten years of experience in sourcing, manufacturing, and global strategy. His previous role as Purchase Director (Woven Apparel) in France has provided him with a comprehensive understanding of the company’s international operations.
In his new capacity, Ahmed will lead Decathlon’s production strategy in Bangladesh, managing relationships with over 70 factories, overseeing supplier partnerships, sustainability initiatives, quality standards, and innovation efforts.
Expressing his enthusiasm, Ahmed stated, “I am honoured to lead a team that has always been close to my heart. Together with our partners, we will continue to build a sustainable and high-performing production ecosystem in Bangladesh.”
Bangladesh has become one of Decathlon’s top three sourcing countries, accounting for 10% of the company’s global sourcing. The country produces more than 100 million units annually across a diverse range of products including textiles, tents, sleeping bags, and footwear, employing over 2,000 local team members.
Deepak D’souza, Production Zone Director for South Asia, added, “His journey exemplifies the strength and potential of our Bangladeshi teams.”
This leadership transition follows the successful tenure of Vivek Kunwar, who contributed significantly to Decathlon Bangladesh’s growth in industrial capabilities and sustainability initiatives. Kunwar has now assumed the role of Chief of Staff at Decathlon’s global headquarters in France.
