During a visit to the Chief Adviser, the Danish Ambassador reaffirmed commitments to the reform program, climate change mitigation, and superior green investments while expressing sympathy for the victims of the revolt.
Denmark has also made the decision to promptly donate US $ 1 million to the Centre for Policy Dialogue’s (CPD) efforts to strengthen Bangladesh’s economic governance and help the country escape the middle-income trap in view of the recent events in that country. Denmark is dedicated to strengthening the capabilities of both state and non-state actors and to advancing good governance.
The Danish Ambassador also reiterated Denmark’s goal to advance commerce and investment with Bangladesh and to fortify diplomatic ties between the two countries. He talked about Denmark’s continued interest in high-quality investments in Bangladesh, specifically large, specialised green projects like the Laldia Container Terminal, which was funded by Danish shipping and port giant Maersk/APM Terminals with an investment exceeding US $ 400 million; the US $ 1.3 billion investment made by Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners and Copenhagen Offshore Partners in an offshore wind energy project near the Bay of Bengal coast; and the US $ 300 million financing for the Saidabad Water Treatment Plant in Dhaka.
The ambassador underlined the strengthening and deepening relationship between Bangladesh and Denmark as well as their mutual commitment to advancing climate change legislation and working towards more ecologically friendly labour, energy, transportation, and agricultural practices.
The ambassador also brought up the prospect of even more contact on labour sector reform between Bangladesh and Denmark when Denmark serves as a member of the ILO Governing Body from 2024 to 2027.
