Even as Bangladesh has, reportedly, extended the coronavirus lockdown by another week recently, in an effort to stem the spiralling of the fresh COVID-19 cases in the country, apparel manufacturers who meet the domestic demand are, reportedly, struggling to survive even as they continue to battle the various fallouts of the pandemic.
This was maintained in some reports, which underlined that even if the Government has allowed the industries in the country to operate, this hasn’t helped much the cause of these garment makers as markets and stores around Bangladesh have remained closed owing to the lockdown.
“Such a decision does not make any sense…; we produce for the local market, if the shops remain closed, where will the manufacturers sell their products?” reportedly underlined the President of the Bangladesh Avhantarin Poshak Prostutkarak Malik Samity (a platform of businesses that produce garments for the local market) even as businesses catering to domestic demand for apparels have, reportedly, maintained that markets and shops across the country should be opened after the current week-long strict lockdown.
They further expressed fears that otherwise most of the small and medium manufacturers would lose their business.
