Even as Bangladesh enters the 7-day lockdown from Wednesday (14 April), garment workers will, reportedly, have to walk to their respective workplaces to report for work even though the Government has asked the factory owners to ensure their own transport systems.
This was underlined by media reports, which further added that as per the factory owners since most of the workers, reportedly, live within the vicinity of their respective factories, they can easily walk to the factories during lockdown.
Meanwhile, speaking to the media, President of Bangladesh Federation of Workers Solidarity (BFWS), Ruhul Amin said this was not a logical decision as workers living far away from their workplaces would be adversely affected by this.
The BFWS President, reportedly, maintained that many workers live more than 5 km away from their respective factories and they run risk of getting infected, which in turn could put the whole factory, where the infected person works, at risk as well.
…the responsibility will fall on the workers if they cannot reach on time; we cannot accept the decision in any way, Amin, reportedly, added further.
